The girl heaved a sigh of relief when she heard his response through the small iron window.
“What happened and why are you locked up here? Why were you tortured so harshly?”
Lying on the floor, Sonny gazed weakly at the ceiling.
“I attempted to steal something from the Imperial Palace, but I was caught.
Although, even if I hadn’t done that, they would have found any excuse to throw me into prison.”
The girl let out a sigh.
“Are you alright? Are you hungry? The guard brought me some food yesterday. I secretly kept a piece of bread. If you want to eat, I can toss it to you.”
They only received one meal a day in this place. If they missed it, they would go hungry until the following day.
Sonny glanced up at the small window high on the wall. The girl sounded only around eighteen or nineteen years old. Would she be able to throw it over?
“No, I’m not hungry. You should keep it for yourself.”
He was slightly curious about the girl’s kindness.

“Did you see them torturing me last night? Weren’t you scared? I tried to steal things from the palace. Aren’t you scared of me?”
“I’m not scared of you, but last night was terrifying. I couldn’t sleep at all.”

“I don’t know why they locked me up. A few days ago, my father and I came to this country for a trip, and we stayed at a hotel. When I woke up, I was here, locked away. I don’t understand what they’re saying.”
Sonny listened in silence.
“What of your father?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t seen him since I got locked up. I’ve been yelling out to the guards every day for the past few days, but no one replied to me. My father is probably not here.”
He fell silent, pondering for a moment.
